My next series of walkthroughs will be for Gamma Energy.

If you have any videos you would like me to make, please ask.

How to 1: Tossing a Delayed Portal

I plan on demonstrating a few basic techniques before attempting any advanced walkthroughs.  You will find in this short video an introduction to tossing a delayed portal.

Tossing a Delayed Portal will allow you to save time and reduce repeated tasks.

Task:

You have two raised platforms on either side of a wall.  You need a portal on platform A and platform B.  You neither have a line of sight to shoot a portal, nor anyway to get back up to platform A if you jump down and take a shot.

First lets examine our equipment:

When you pull the trigger on your standard issue portal device a concentrated mass of energy is expelled and understandably moves on a slow but constant vector.  Even if your portal device moves it will continue until it hits a solid surface.  Now once it hits that surface and only then will your previous portal be closed and opened a-new.

Now for the application:

  1. Find point C where A is still visible.
  2. Put a portal at point C and B.
  3. Goose the portal so that you are looking at point A and slowly move outward until your targeting reticule lights up.
  4. Now shoot a portal at point A and quickly move to side B of the portal.

Portal

Portal – Rating and Rating Method Explained

30/70 – general

20/20 – story+

10/10 – advanced

60 of 100 total

  • The first 70 points are based on the mapping and general game play, where 30 points is the median.

When rating I will look at the complexity of puzzles, originality, and enjoyment.  In my opinion it is important that puzzles make sense, if you aren’t sure you completed a challenge the way it was intended that is bad.  Also I take into account difficulty of execution; if you figure out how to solve a chamber in the first 60 seconds, but do not complete it within 20 minutes that is just stupid.

  • The next 20 points are based on everything else or Story+

A portal modification should be much more than mapping and general game play.  If the mod has an original story, creative use of mechanics or new models it should receive these points.

  • The final 10 points are given if the modification has advanced chambers and / or a final boss battle.

These are the icing on the cake and required if a mod wants 100/100

Welcome to FlingMe~

Hello and welcome to FlingME~

My name is Wayne Grace and this is the new project I am working on.

I love puzzle games and spatial puzzles the most.

I thought I would stop playing Portal when Skyrim came out, but I still can not stop.

I will be using the space this site provides to review several portal 1 mods and provide walkthroughs for the advanced maps in a few.

I hope you find the information at least helpful if not somewhat interesting.
